Reality Vs Reality ( PB)

This year is my Senior year in High School. I was imagined this year as being festive and filled with nothing but fun memories. When your younger your imagination tends to takeover and make reality distorted and into what you want it to be. I didn't realize that the reality of being a senior is made up of the components of being a hard worker, being dedicated, and knowing what you want. During my first two years of High School I did not take school as seriously as i should have. In eighth grade I wasn't even thinking about making an impact with my grades I was just trying to get by. Little did i know, if my mind was set on making good grades from the beginning, i would not have to struggle now to try and prove that i am college ready. I was once told that " People do not do the right thing until the lesson is taught " in my case I am a prime example of this quote. I did not realize what I had to do until it was done. Although fantasies and fables are loved, reality is what we deal with and everyday i have to remind myself that what i do today affects tomorrow and to do it right NOW because tomorrow is never promised. Reality has settled in and i now know and realize many things that did not occur to me while i was younger. Its only like this because people like myself want the fantasy rather than the reality. As a senior i promise to show why i want and need to be successful. Now i am just faced with picking the right choice which is in this case......REALITY over FANTASY

Where Does It Stop? (SSR)

Islan Netteles a 21 year old young woman was brutally beat by a group of young men on a side walk in Harlem. She soon died due to her injuries. Islan was a transgender female who lived her life like everyone else but the only difference was the sex she lived her life as and the sex she was actually born as. Nettles was out with several other transgendered woman and was singled out by the men because they found out that she was born a male. Why do people react in such a way? Why cant people just mind their business? Who is someone to be able to judge and cast stones on someone because of the way they live their life? what if it was backwards? Where gays and transgendered bashed the straight for liking and loving who they do. Its really sad that differences tear apart a community and can be the biggest obstacles to get in the way of peace. R.I.P Islan and lets stop the violence and raise the talent.

THE BMI HORROR (ID)

In Gym class we the students, the kids that eat anything we want, the kids that actually don't care about such things surrounded by healthy eating and fitness are learning about Body Mass Index aka BMI. Gym for us use to be fun but now its a pain. We are driven to go back to our past and and dig up or knowledge on long division and forced to not use calculators, specifically problems that take forever to do without an actual calculator. I find it funny how Gym was a subject and class that people found to be easy to pass and hard to fail based on the fact that all you had to do was to get dressed and participate in activities just to pass. Now during our senior year its a class we look at that seems almost impossible to past and just a class that as we say "doing way toooo much."

Why is it now that we are being taught something during this subject? Why can't it be like the old fun days that we remember? I just want to know because the way this class has my grade looking makes me hurt.

Not physically though.

To Smile Or No Smile That Is The Question ! ( FC )

Today was senior picture day. Every young lady was dolled up and every boy was sharp and handsome. I myself am no fan of this day only because I am never satisfied with the pictures that come back.
MY problem was with how genuine can a smile be if it's forced and un called for? When a smile is forced upon someones face who is not a natural smiler it looks entirely awkward. Then you are faced with an awkward feeling and part of regret, wishing you did not take the photo or could take it over.
Pictures are worth a thousand words but, what can you get from a crooked smile and strained face? These pictures start to become something some people wish did not take place. Although these pictures capture a moment that you will soon be proud of its a headache trying to take them, getting ready for them and etc.

P.S Who ever made cameras was a smart person, they made a device that captures time, who would ever think ...

The Great Debaters ( CRR )

Today in class Ms. Hegeman assigned groups and debate topics. My group was given the topic of Phillis Wheatley writing her poems for the money and not for authenticity. To me this topic is very hard to prove, and it is certainly hard to argue. Many things can go wrong with our argument. We could be contradicting, not as passionate due to our personal feelings, and just lost within the topic. Now that we are stuck with this topic we have to make decisions. No one wants to lose the debate, but the only way to come out on top is to find text, facts, and details that will support our claim.

This topic makes me think about how debates are argued around emotional topics. It especially makes me think how debates on the most controversial topic such as racism were debated during the times of the segregation. A movie by the name of "The Great Debaters" explains and demonstrates exactly my thoughts. This movie is based on a trues story about a man named Melvin B. Tolson, who was a professor at Wiley College in Texas. In 1935 he was inspired to create a debate team which will be the first debate team of the school and soon they would be the first all black debate team to challenge harvard in a national debate. This movie elaborates on the struggles and accomplishments of these young adults to prove themselves that they were good enough to debate despite the color of their skin.
