Brought From Africa (CRR)

In class we are going over a poem entitled "Being Brought From Africa To America." During our time in class the topic of slavery comes up a lot, which is a very controversial topic. I have learned that many of my peers have different thoughts and views on the topic of slavery. I like to see the variety of thoughts and perceptions that my friends have, because it shows that they are intelligent and that they are educated enough on the topic to actually give their own opinion and express how they feel upon this emotional topic. Although I am pretty sure my friends have not experienced slavery their thoughts and feelings about the topic seem to be very strong. Like any sane person the mistreatment of another human being due to a difference shown within them will cause sympathy and a sense of hurt. There's also the What If factor that everyone goes through, especially with me and my peers being of African decent and slavery having to do with the mistreatment, outcasting, and discrimination towards African-Americans and people of color in general. We all kind of think....WHAT IF? What if it was us that had been tortured, what if we had been deprived of our freedom because of the color of our skin, what if we had been subjected to hard labor and mistreatment because a certain race felt as if they were superior to ours. These topics create great discussions and thoughts when brought into a classroom of my peers, and I love them for that.
